LEDs and Their Energy Rating

LEDs and Their Energy Rating

LEDs are an energy-efficient means of lighting a wide selection of businesses across different sectors.

That is reflected in both their performance and energy rating.

Typically, LEDs should deliver an energy rating of A+ or A++.

However, how does this energy rating scale work? And how do LEDs compare with a traditional lighting technologies when it comes to saving energy?

What Makes LEDs Different to Other Lighting technologies

LED technology has advanced to a stage where the quality of light distributed from LEDs, combined with their energy saving properties, makes it the perfect choice for illuminating a wide range of spaces.

LEDs last much longer than traditional bulbs, typically save 70% to 85% in energy consumption and fraction of the CO2 emissions. Colour is precise and colour rendering (objects appearing their true colour under a given light source) is very high.

LED lighting is close to sunlight so much healthier for people (people produce vital chemicals under LED which does not happen under any other form of artificial light)

How Long Do LEDs Last?

Of the different lighting products commercially available, LEDs can boast by far the longest  lifetime.

An incandescent bulb has a typical range of between 750 and 2,000 hours.

A CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) lasts somewhere between 8,000 and 20,000 hours.

However good quality LED  is 80,000 hours.

LEDs are durable and reliable.

They operate safely in a range of environments, withstanding cold, vibrations and impact better than traditional fixtures.

How to Choose Energy Efficient Lighting

Energy performance is important when making choices about lighting for your business, but it is also vital to understand the purpose of your lighting to maximise its effectiveness.

Colour, colour rendering, uniformity and glare will be vital in any lighting, but dependant upon the specific application, the values will vary.

Proper lighting design will do this, helping to ensure your business gets the best out of its LED lighting.

We can support and guide you in making the right decisions.
